Red Red Wine
I have been a total taskmaster since I moved into my new home, acting like a maniac trying to get it all done. And why the rush? I really can't tell you except for the fact I am an impatient perfectionist who likes to feel like I am in control by having things in order. Worth noting, I also tend to underestimate how long everything takes and overestimate my energy reserves—which leads to chronic multi-tasking, unconscious behavior and emergency living. And that kind of trying to do too much, too fast, too often, can lead us to create real emergencies.
Yup, created one yesterday. I had a couple of hours to clean the woodwork in my dining room, unpack the second bedroom and get cleaned up before my partner returned from his workout. Okay. But I also had some phone calls to catch up on, a load of laundry to do, a vacuum of the pet hair taking over the house—and look how dusty that window sill is, and... Well I think you get the picture.
Just when I had completed cleaning all the dining room woodwork, a red bottle of wine flew out of my hands and came crashing down on the wood floor, splattering everywhere, and I mean everywhere—including the walls, furniture, freshly cleaned woodwork, and me. Sticky, pungent red wine—and of course it wasn't the cheap stuff either. All that rushing around for what?
Now I had to move all the furniture and not only clean the woodwork again, but also the floors, furniture, and myself. Ugh! I was in a red wine bath when my partner returned home to say, "What stinks in here?" I started laughing and began to sing the song "Red Red Wine," made popular by the reggae band UB40.
The next time you find yourself rushing to do more than one thing at a time (or especially more than five), I invite you to stop, take a breath, visualize an expensive bottle of wine crashing onto your dining room floor and sing these evocative lyrics (with a reggae beat) to remind you of all the emergencies we don't need to create!
Red, red wine
It's up to you
All I can do, I've done
But mem'ries won't go
No, mem'ries won't go
Namaste,

Diane
